In the early 1990's, Don Fate of Bellaire began a local duplicate bridge club, which met on Wednesday evenings at the Torch Lake Township Hall and then later at the Senior Center in Bellaire.

Mr. Fate passed away in 2002 and Nancy DeWeese stepped in to manage the club. In the twelve years since, she turned it into a viable, competitive organization. She was an avid player, as well as an ACBL certified director.

Nancy taught beginner and intermediate students, and through her encouragement and gentle persuasion, the organization flourished. By 2004, primarily through Nancy’s efforts, the club was granted recognition by ACBL (American Contract Bridge League) and became officially known as ACBC (Antrim County Bridge Club) with full authorization to award masterpoints and participate in other League functions.

She brought us "into the fold" of the larger competitive game. Some of our members are now Life Masters. When our members compete in tournments, we frequently have multiple players who successfully place. Above all, Nancy worked to maintain the small-town bridge club feel begun by Don Fate. "It's supposed to be fun," she would commonly say. Her motto was always "Cherish Thy Partner."

Nancy DeWeese

Ms. DeWeese passed away in the Fall of 2014. She was a kind mentor, a patient instructor to all of our members. She was a wonderful woman, a cherished friend, ... and a damn good Bridge Player!

Above all, it is Our Motto to Cherish Thy Partner!
